From November 19 to 26th, YMCAs across Canada celebrate Peace Week as a way of recognizing those who are working hard to build more compassionate and connected communities here and abroad. A special highlight is the presentation of the YMCA Peace Medals which are given to individuals or groups, who without any special resources, demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting peace in unique ways. Our 2016 Power of Peace Award nominees have just been announced.
Surrey is one step closer to a second YMCA centre of community with the signing of an Agreement in Principle by the City of Surrey and the YMCA of Greater Vancouver.
The new facility, projected to open in 2021, represents an important investment in social infrastructure in the Whalley community. As with the existing Tong Louie Family YMCA, this new facility will serve thousands of children and families so they can reach their potential through a wide range of health, recreation and wellness programs.
