Special note: If you received the YMCA Child Fitness and Arts tax receipt from us on February 20th or 21st, please disregard it as the total claim amount provided was incorrect due to a system error. Please use only the receipts received on or after February 23rd for tax purposes.
Many of the YMCA’s physical activity and artistic programs may be eligible for the Federal Children’s Fitness and Arts Tax Credits. Each of the fitness and arts tax credits is a federal non-refundable, personal tax credit of up to $1,500 per child (under the age of 16 years). You can claim a maximum of $1,000 of eligible fees per child for the Child Fitness Tax Credit and $500 of eligible fees per child for the Child Arts Tax Credit. These credits may be claimed for the 2015 calendar year by parents who have registered their child in an eligible program of physical activity or an artistic, cultural, recreational or developmental activity.
If the YMCA has your e-mail address, we will e-mail your receipt to you for the purpose of claiming any eligible program expenses by the end of February. If we don’t have your e-mail address, please contact:
Please note that we will only email membership receipts to you. For course purchases, parents need to use the course receipts they receive when they have paid and registered throughout 2015. If these receipts have not been kept, a reprint can be requested by contacting the locations listed above by the end of February.
- Payments must have been made in 2015. Programs that were paid for during the 2014 calendar year and a portion or the entire program was not delivered until 2015 are not eligible.
- Your child must be under 16 years of age or your child with a disability was under 18 years of age at the beginning of 2015.
- Program must be a minimum of eight consecutive weeks. For camps, programs must be five consecutive days.
- Receipts received following payment for eligible 2016 programs can be used for next year’s personal tax credit claim. Please keep receipts on file for these purposes.

Marco and Ivan first struck up a conversation after noticing they both regularly attended the same cycle fit class at the Tong Louie Family YMCA. They both enjoyed the cycling class, but were looking to try different activities at the Y and get more out of their workouts.
Branching out, they started attending different drop-in fitness classes such as Synrgy and Bootcamp. They also started lane swimming together in the mornings.
Getting the exercise was important, but they both appreciated the extra motivation of having someone else at their workouts.
“It was great to have someone to keep me accountable for hitting the gym,” says Ivan. “There were times after work that I really didn’t feel like going. But I knew if I didn’t show up, I would never hear the end of it from Marco. It was definitely a motivating factor.”
“Ivan knew how to help me push the limits of my normal workout. Whether it was trying a different activity or seeing how much further I could go, he definitely raised the bar for me.”
Future goals? There is talk of a half marathon or the Tough Mudder race. “We’ll take it one day at a time,” says Ivan.
Keep pushing Marco and Ivan!
In the month of March, refer a friend to join the YMCA and you will receive a $50 credit towards your membership dues or personal training. For more information, contact the membership services desk at any YMCA Membership Centre.
