Karan was taught from a young age that it was vital to give back to the community. He started out as a participant of the YMCA Youth Leadership Development program at the young age of 12, and in only a few years has become an integral voice for the contribution of youth. Through his efforts, he has not only acted as a mentor for other youth and raised funds for the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, he has also lead fundraising efforts for the Rotary Club and the Canadian Wheelchair Foundation by providing wheelchairs to those in need in Mexico.
Karan is now a member of the YMCA Young Leaders Council. He has developed an extremely grounded and mature perspective on the world—one of someone well beyond his years: “Philanthropy allows you to see a person's life change before your eyes. It allows one to grow and mature alongside those we are affecting. Philanthropy is my therapy, and someone else's life jacket to help keep their head above water".
