If your family loves spending quality time outdoors, the cold, rainy days that come every winter season can really dampen your plans. The good news is, with a little creativity and planning there is no shortage of fun and memorable ways to make the most of your time together, while having to stay indoors.

Here are some activities to try that will help you and your family forget about all the bad weather, and have lots of fun along the way!

A little home cooking
Nothing brings a family together like a nice meal, so imagine how much closer you’ll all be if you create some of the dishes together. Whether it’s having your kids help you wash the vegetables, mix the filling for a sweet or savoury pie, toss in the ingredients for a delicious marinade or even write out the menu and decorate it in their own special way, there are lots of ways for everyone to get involved. This might even ignite the inner chef in your child(ren) or at the very least teach them some valuable cooking skills that will help them in the years to come. And don’t forget to snap some photos to capture the completed meal so that you’ll have special keepsakes from your memorable day in the kitchen together.

Indoor camping
Can’t head outdoors? No problem, just bring the outside into your home. If you have enough space to put up a real tent in your living area or play area, you’re more than halfway there. If not, all you need are blankets, some chairs that you can drape the blankets over, a flashlight, camp-appropriate snacks, books for storytime and a board game or two. Once that’s all set, you’ve got everything you’ll need to have some fun under the "stars." Indoor camping is a great way for your kids to expand their creative minds, for your family to stay focused on each other—no phones or screens allowed in the tent—and everyone’s trek to the washroom will be safe from any wildlife. Talk about a win-win-win situation!
