Kindergarten to Grade 1
No experience required! This entry-level program introduces children in Kindergarten and Grade 1 to the sport of basketball in a fun, active and healthy learning environment. The Jr. YMCA Basketball program offers 10 sessions of FUNdamental basketball skills development through modified games with an emphasis on fun! The program strives to teach children the values of participating in sport for life.
Weekly sessions are 45 minutes in duration and follow a specific curriculum focussing on continual development of the fundamental basketball skills. All participants are provided with an age-appropriate basketball and jersey to keep!
Note: For the Winter 2020 session, this program will be run at the following elementary schools in Surrey and North Delta.

Jr. YMCA Basketball Winter 2020 Session Timelines

NOTE: Further cancellations may occur at the discretion of the Surrey and Delta School Districts due to school functions that receive priority on the space. Should there be cancellations, every attempt will be made to secure a secondary location to continue the session.

Registration for the Winter 2020 session will open on Wednesday, November 27, 2019.

Participants register for a zone and are placed on a team within that zone. In the event that there are not enough players or coaches for a particular zone, we will offer a spot in another zone or issue a refund. A team can only run with two volunteer coaches in place along with a minimum of 8 participants. Please consider volunteering if you have a passion helping children and youth develop in a positive environment.
Refunds must be requested in writing to firstname.lastname@example.org with supporting documentation where necessary.
There will be a $25 withdrawal fee from the time of registration to Thursday, January 30, 2020. There will be NO refunds issued after January 30, 2020.

All volunteers receive training free of charge — including manuals and resources provided by the Coaching Association of Canada in collaboration with Canada Basketball. Volunteers will also be provided opportunities for professional development in physical education and/or coaching through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
