Jess decided to send her daughter Sierra to camp for the first time when she was six. “I worked at summer camp in Ontario, and know how camp can shape a person's life.” To prepare, Jess organized sleepovers for Sierra and took the family to family camp at YMCA Camp Elphinstone over Thanksgiving weekend. “We had a great time together, and I knew she was as ready as she was going to be.” That doesn’t mean Sierra wasn’t nervous. “I overheard her talking to her stuffed animals about it the night before she left. She was telling them that camp would be fun and not to be nervous.”

After dropping her off Jess was worried. Camp had played such a big role in her life as a kid, she really hoped that Sierra would love it too. When Sierra came back on the ferry at the end of the week she was beaming. “She was so proud of herself,” said Jess. “She loved everything she tried at camp – especially archery!”

“Sierra can't wait to go back to camp again this summer and she's bringing three friends with her!”
