YMCA Immigrant Services programs help newcomers integrate and help long-term residents connect to new immigrants - these programs and activities are funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The YMCA English Conversation Clubs support adult immigrants in developing English language skills while learning about life in Canada. The YMCA English Conversation Club Host is responsible for managing the reception by greeting and signing in participants and facilitators. This role includes verifying participant eligibility, ensuring new participants complete an application form, and recording participant attendance. The Conversation Club Host is expected to be present at the club a half hour before and after the program to assist with set up and clean up.


  • Be of immediate assistance to newcomers
  • Develop your facilitation skills and build intercultural communication skills
  • Reliable and dedicated volunteers will be able to receive a reference


  • Available on Mondays 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm 
  • Motivated to work with newcomers
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills
  • Strong command of the English language and good intercultural communication skills
  • Reliable and able to commit to a minimum of 3 shifts per month over a 6 month period

  • A current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
  • Three references  (two of these should be professional references)
