A group facilitator is just that, a facilitator or a mentor who advises teens in a group setting during the Youth leadership program who reports the supervisor of the program. They guide discussions and activities that give participants a chance to share their thoughts, feelings, opinions and concerns; as well as learning from guest speakers, training sessions and peer presentations. The purpose of the weekly sessions is to build relationships and help youth become positive role models in the community.

Applicants must:

  • Successful completion of all Volunteer documentation and Criminal Record Search
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Experience with working with youth, preferably in leadership programs and activities
  • A minimum of 4 month commitment for 2hrs each week on specific program evenings (except holidays)
  • Be at least 5 minutes early for any scheduled event
  • Must be able to attend a YMCA Youth Leadership training and child protection training
  • Willingness to prepare weekly leadership activity sessions with co-facilitators using manual provided
  • Willing to support youth with occasional special events for the community
  • Willing to build healthy and positive relationships with you

  • A current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
  • Three references  (two of these should be professional references)
