The Chilliwack YMCA is part of the YMCA of Greater Vancouver - a charity dedicated to strengthening the foundations of community by helping families thrive, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of connection and belonging.  Together, we are building a community in which a generation of children and families reach their full potential.  Our values guide our decision making and behaviour: we do the right thing, put people first, keep our promises and lead by example.

The Youth Leadership volunteer will work with youth ages 12-18 planning and delivering activities that enhance the youth’s social, teamwork and communication skills. Volunteers are expected to attend one 2 hour meeting a week on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm. Also, attendance at 2 youth conferences in November and May (long weekend) is required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 19 years of age
  • Interest in working with school-aged children, ages 12-18 years
  • Willingness to learn to facilitate large groups of youth
  • Available for one 2 hour shift per week
  • Completion of volunteer documentation and criminal record check
  • Attendance at a Welcome to the Y / Emergency Procedures training session
  • First Aid certification an asset
  • Understand and abide by the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility

  • A current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
  • Three references  (two of these should be professional references)
