The YMCA Childminding team takes care of kids so that parents can take care of themselves.  By providing a safe and fun play space for kids ages 6 weeks to 12 years, parents have the opportunity to participate in a class, go for a swim or meet up with friends in the facility.

Volunteers assist Childminding staff with the delivery of the program by:

  • Ensuring proper check in/out procedures are followed
  • Attentive to the needs of the children (play, food, and bathroom)
  • Adhering to Child Protection Procedures

The Childminding program at the Langara YMCA runs on:

  • Monday - Thursday from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm and 4:15 am  - 8:15 pm
  • Friday from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
  • Saturday - Sunday from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm


  • Interest or experience working with infants and children
  • Working with minimal supervision
  • First Aid Certification
  • Ability to commit to a minimum of 2 shifts per week
  • Creative and innovative

Our Commitment to the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults

The YMCA is committed to the protection of children in our care and vulnerable adults participating in our programs.  To ensure this commitment is upheld, all volunteers will need to provide:

  • A current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued to later than six (6) months preceding your start date
  • Three references (two of these should be professional references)
