Wang Chi arrived in Vancouver as one of the more soft spoken and timid participants of the group. Throughout the preliminary workshops, Wang rarely shared his opinions and ideas. With the ongoing support and encouragement of Wang’s fellow YPN participants and YMCA camp staff, Wang began to feel at ease speaking up. At the end of the program, Wang expressed his overwhelming gratitude to his peers and explained how back home he felt his ideas and thoughts went unheard, but here he felt so supported to share all of his ideas and be his true self. The significant change in Wang’s confidence and leadership skills over the summer was inspiring. The YPN experience allowed Wang to discover his voice.
